About the Event

This day session will explore good practise, current opportunities, and challenges for museums looking to develop their work around using collections to explore issues around the human body and sexuality. The day will begin with a key note from Florence Schechter (Director) and Sarah Creed (Curator) on their work at the Vagina Museum followed by discussion and lunch. The afternoon will consist of presentations from Scottish Museums working in this area, including from Mungo Campbell (Deputy Director, Hunterian) and Louise Wilkie (Assistant Curator, Surgeon’s Hall Museum).

This session is designed for those already working in, or preparing to work in, this area, and is part of a series of discussions in early 2020 that will support Scottish museums to engage in important current conversations in museum practise. Participants should come with an open mind and prepared to question their own practise, and to share lessons learned in a safe space with supportive colleagues.
